(Zumar) 39 : 71

And the disbelievers will be led to Hellfire in crowds until they reach there, its door will be opened, and the guards of it will be asking them: Didn’t there come to you Messengers from among yourselves explaining the verses of your Lord and warning you about the meeting of you this Day; they will say: Yes, but the word of punishment happened true upon the disbelievers.

It is told in verse 53: 39 that man has nothing except what he did intentionally. Allah knows everyone’s deeds and even the feelings in their hearts, and all are recorded in the book of deeds fastened around everyone’s neck, as told in verses 17: 13-14 and 18: 49. It is told in verse 4: 145 that the hypocrites will enter Hell without Trial. Here, the disbelievers mentioned are the Fujjar who follow the hypocrites blindly. When the Fujjar reach Hell, its doors will be opened automatically. The Angels will ask them, “Did messengers not come to you from among yourselves, reciting to you the verses of your Lord and warning you about the meeting of this Day?” They will answer, “Yes, but the decree of punishment has been justified against the disbelievers.” From this answer, it is obvious that the Fujjar, who read and hear the verses of the Lord’s Book but lead a life contrary to the verses they have read and heard, are the disbelievers. This verse also teaches that the Impartial Allah will never send anyone to Hell without witnessing against their soul that they were indeed a disbeliever. The people of Messenger Muhammed, including the hypocrites and their blind followers who have inherited the Lord’s Book, are those who have wronged their souls, as told in verse 35: 32. See explanation 7: 37; 36: 69-70; 39: 59.
